Predators F Watson faces domestic charge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Police in Tennessee have arrested Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson on a charge of domestic assault.

Franklin Police Lt. Charles Warner says Watson was arrested Saturday evening. Warner says Watson has been released from jail on $4,500 bond and is due in court June 28.

No further information was immediately available.

Hoffman dealt twice, lands with Panthers

The Ottawa Senators traded winger Mike Hoffman on Tuesday, hoping to solve an ugly off-ice issue involving star defenseman Erik Karlsson and his wife.

The Senators sent Hoffman to the San Jose Sharks, who then dealt him to the Florida Panthers. All told, the two transactions involved four players and six draft picks.

Trotz resigns after leading Caps to Cup

Less than two weeks after lifting the Stanley Cup, Barry Trotz is a free agent and the Washington Capitals are looking for a new coach.

Trotz stepped down as Capitals coach on Monday after a contract dispute over salary and term that leaves the newly minted Stanley Cup champions without a coach with the draft and free agency fast approaching. General manager Brian MacLellan said the Capitals accepted Trotz's resignation after they were unable to agree on terms on a new contract.

Tippett joins Seattle expansion group

Former NHL coach Dave Tippett is expanding his responsibilities with the group looking to put an expansion team in Seattle.

The former coach of the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars has signed on as senior adviser for Seattle Hockey Partners LLC. Tippett was already working under President and CEO Tod Leiweke on infrastructure projects two-plus years before a franchise could begin play. It's his first job since mutually parting ways with the Coyotes a year ago and taking last season off.

Dahlin could provide Sabres a spark

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Former defenseman Mike Weber is all too familiar with the Sabres' lean years while spending a majority of his eight NHL seasons in Buffalo.

There were high-priced free agents who failed to pan out and one draft-pick bust after another. Weber made the playoffs just twice, with Buffalo eliminated in the first round both times.

Raised cap creates intriguing offseason

The Stanley Cup Final run of the expansion Golden Knights contributed to what is expected to be a healthy increase for the salary cap, giving NHL teams more freedom to make deals. With elite center John Tavares, top defenseman John Carlson and a strong group of free agents available soon, the ceiling for player spending will rise to between $78 and $82 million from $75 million.

Wild to host All-American prospects game

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota Wild have been selected as a first-time host this fall of the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game.

The seventh annual event, featuring the top 40 U.S.-born prospects eligible for the 2019 draft, will be played on Sept. 19 at Xcel Energy Center. The announcement was made by USA Hockey on Monday. Four of the first six contests were held in Buffalo, New York. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia each hosted one, too.

Domi, Galchenyuk eager for fresh starts

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Max Domi heard the rumors that the Arizona Coyotes might trade him this offseason. Even so, when learning he was being sent to Montreal for Alex Galchenyuk, the news came as a bit of a shock.

"I'm really excited to start the new chapter," Domi said during a conference call Saturday. "Of course I was a little bit shocked, but it's a lot of emotion, some sadness, and mostly excitement and goodness. So I can't wait to get started. I'm absolutely pumped."

Senators suspend assistant GM Lee

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) The Ottawa Senators have suspended Randy Lee, the assistant general manager facing a harassment charge from an incident during the NHL's pre-draft scouting combine.

Lee is charged with second-degree harassment after allegedly making lewd comments and rubbing the shoulders of a 19-year-old male hotel shuttle driver in Buffalo, New York, on May 30. He has pled not guilty and is due in court on July 6.

Blackhawks extend Hinostroza, Hayden

CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to two-year contract extensions with forwards Vinnie Hinostroza and John Hayden.

The 24-year-old Hinostroza set career highs with seven goals and 18 assists in 50 games last season. The 23-year-old Hayden had four goals and nine assists in 47 games with Chicago before finishing the season with Rockford of the American Hockey League.
